Remade Essex Consulting on Proposed EU Soil Framework Directive

Remade Essex will shortly be compiling a consolidated response to Defra’s ‘Consultation on the proposed EU Soil Framework Directive and initial Regulatory Impact Assessment’.

In September 2006 the European Commission adopted the Soil Thematic Strategy, including a proposal for a Soil Framework Directive.  The overall objective of the proposed Directive is to provide a framework for action by Member States, identifying threats to soil quality and resources and requiring measures to overcome identified issues.

The purpose of the consultation is to assist Defra to develop a robust negotiation position in order to enable them to engage effectively in negotiations. It is therefore important that Defra’s negotiating line is well-informed and based on sound evidence. Therefore Defra is seeking views on the scope of the proposed Directive and its approach, as well as on the benefits that the proposed Directive may deliver and the likely costs of implementing it.

Remade Essex is working with partners and key stakeholders to develop this response and will build from the expertise that Remade Essex has gained carrying out a wide range of projects in the field of organics and compost market development.
